Evaluation 6
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you fell you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
When i look back on our preliminary task we have now got alot better a filming and keeping the camera still, we have also learnt alot more about the different types of shots and that you should also try and use a range of shots when you are filming even if in the end you don't need them all. In our film i believe we managed to get the different shots accurate and we used a wider range in the film opening than we did in the preliminary task. We also learnt that we should always listen to each others ideas and what they think might look good because sometimes they could be right about somethings. We also learnt how to use Final cut express more and we also learnt how to use imoive by learning two different ways of editing we learnt how to add different affects and also to cut and merge different clips together.
I also learnt more about using the cameras and how to make my shots look better because sometimes i forgot i was filming and we had to start all over again which didn't make my group to happy.
Overall i think me and the group have come very far from the preliminary task and i think we have got alot better at editing and filming and i am very proud of what we was able to achieve from it all.
Evaluation 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for our media project will be males and females with a age range of 15-25. The reason why we choose these was because of what we are includeing in our film for example the feeling of paranoia not knowing what is going on and your mind playing a range of tricks on you to put you off working out what is happening in the film. Also the type of language content we choose to use is quite vigorous at times and through out the lenght of the film the plot gets quite intense but it is still easy for a person of the age of 15 and up to understand what is going on and the type of language that is being used.
When we started to look at what target group to aim the movie at we was going to go with teenagers and their age range is about 12-18 but over time we soon realized that not all of them would want to watch something where they have to sit and work out the plot in their head, another reason was because some people might feel disapponted of they didnt see anything that they shouldnt see or anything fun happening like a party. So these factors help us as a group changed our mind about what target audience would make a more appropriate target audience.
Another factor of why we made this decision was because when we was asking around what film genre would be better they all said thriller and that they would preder to watch this type of film becuase they like the fact that they might get scared. We also told them about the genres that we was thinking about doing and they all said they like they fact of psychological thrillers and the fact that you have to try and figure out what is happening and what is about to happen. With them helping us and giving us feedback it made the choice of picking a genre a lot more easier than choosing as a group.
With Our target audience around use liking the fact that we had listened to them and choose psychological thrillers and with this choice we founf out it is a easy genre to do and also you have a more dramatic effect on people when doing this genre and it has a bigger impact on them. The language and the plot of the story fitted our tagert audiences thoughts and they all said that we made the right decisions and overall it looked like we did a really good job with the final product with the sort of language we used.
Evaluation 3
What kind of media institution might distribute
your media product and why?
As a group we did alot of reasearch what our film institutions should be we found out that the two film institutions that do the film genre that we chose was paramount pictures and Universal pictures. We done further research on both of these film institutions and with alot of talking about which one was better we went with Paramount Pictures and the reasons behide these were one they have produced more movies with the same sort of story line and genre, and when you first hear the institutions theme our audience will know who it is straight away.
Evaluation 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our film is targeted at a target group of 15-25 year old people, the reason behide this is because as a group we know what types of films these genre of people like. Another reason why we choose this target group was because we can also represented the social group and what they can go through in their lives, we choose to represent this by having a young girl stalked through a woods we was able to get our audience to relate themselves to what the girl was going through and the effects it was having on her. The main reason why we choose the age group that we did was because we wanted the audience to understand what was happen in the film and being able to understand the hidden meaning that was in the film, if we was going to choose a younger target audience i dont think they would be able to understand what was happen and they might have to watch it more than once to understand the message that is behide the story, also they might not get the full effect of the movie as much as someone older might. A social group that we didnt think about when doing the film was differemt religions and their views the reason behide this was because there was no voilence or secual scenes but as in our group we did have a cultural person in our group we had to think more about what the girl was would be wearing so we thought about the different changes we could make to the young girls costume to suit the religion with the young girl not showing any leg or shoulders.
As you can see from this picture Jess is being prayed on a man that is much larger than her and stronger than her. From the picture you can see that Jess is a young and vulnerable girl because she is walking alone in the woods this indicates to the audience that she is innocent and all alone because she is not surrounding by friends. Many young girls can relate to Jess position because sometimes girls can will fear and fell like someone is watching them when they are on their own and this is a good factor because it makes the girls want to carry on watching the film til they reach the end to find out what happens to the young girl.
Evaluation 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products?
As a group we have followed all the main conventions of a psychological thriller the ways we have done this is by the location that we choose to shot our opening in and the also the setting. Many psychological thrillers are set in the woods that are dead slient or a grave yard the reason behide this is because to the audience this symbolisms death or something bad is going to happen that involes killing or death.
We chose the woods to be the setting for our opening the reason why was because the woods is commonly used in Psychological thrillers and is a main convention that is used quite alot, they use the woods because the woods are mainly always quite and when they are dark suspicious things happen in them like someone being kidnapped or hurt. We have changed the conventions of the thriller because they normally film the woods at night time and we set the scene during the daytime. The reason why us as a group decided to chose the daytime to film was because we wanted to portray to the audience that what time of the day you are in the woods you are never really safe and you should always pay attention to what is happen around you, by us filming the scene during the day it make the attack more unexpected to the audience and they wouldn't see it coming they would of thought it would happen during the night time. For us it made the opeing look more realistic because it makes it look like the young girl is on her way home from school and she is being followed and this situation we all know that it can happen.
What else is good about the woods is what associations go with the woods like the wildlife these adds a more of a effect on the audience because of the weird noises and the strange rustling noise that they make by having these it makes the audience more on the UN-easy side and it builds up the tension in the scene to show the audience something is about to happen, and normally when they start making more noise it indicates to the audience that someone is there watching the person that is in focus to the audience attention. By having these different elements in the film it starts to build the tension up along more if it was just the music playing on its own than the audience would start to get bored and not a scared with what was about to happen.
In many thrillers birds are a animal which is commonly used to build up the person tension and to make them more un-easy the reason why they use them is because they know the sort of effect they have on people. In our opening we used birds noise but during the opening you do not see the birds and where they are hiding by doing this is builds up the suspicion of where these noises are coming from for the audience this is good because it gets them thinking and in psychological thrillers thats what you want the target audience to do. By filming the birds during the day we challenged the convention because when you film in the woods at night you can normally see the bored and normally they make a much higher pitch noise which also adds to the tension and the suspicion to the person out in the woods. The bird that normally come out at night relate to the scenario of thrillers with them praying on the birds that are much weaker than them, as this is they same with people the older person always praying on the young weaker girls that cant fight back.
Another factor of thrillers would be the stepping on branches this makes the person in focus think that they are being followed by someone or something but there is not normally anyone there, this also ups the paranoid of the audience and the victim becuase with there being many trees around them it makes it harder for them to see if someone if actually following them and with the audience not being able to see if someone is hiding it makes them feel un-easy and it build up their feeling of suspicioun and them they start believeing something is actually out their.
This is one of the shots from our film opening in which shows you how we challenged the turned out in the end. Here we have a image of the main girl character who is being stalked by a mysterious character which throughout the opening you don't see their face Here you can see the expression on her face is scared and suspicion that she thinks that someone be hide her and following her through the woods on her way home from school. This shot of her turning round to face the camera shows the audience her expression of being scared and paranoid because she is not for certain that someone is following her through the wood .We also tried to attempted to challenge the make up ideas to a thriller as usually they normally would just paint the person to have a pale white face but us as a group decided to we should have Laura's face white with black eyes and black lips. The reason we wanted to do this was because we wanted to make the character to be this dark character that always hides away and with the eyes and lips being black to represents death and what that characters mood and how it affects people, But in the end this did not succeed because as a group we decided that we wasn't going to be showing the stalkers face as it helps to build up the tension towards the audience and also in the scene and if we was going to show the face we would be giving to much information aways to the audience as we wanted the audience to have it playing on their minds of who the stalker was and what he or she looked like, if we was to give the face away to the audience they would just get bored with the movie and not want to carry on watching it.
