Titles,Headings&Subheadings,

As it is getting close to us handing in our film opeing we have to make sure while we are editing our opening we have to include the names below in the opening:

  • Music by

  • Sound,picture and institution

  • Institution presents( ours will be Paramount )

  • Production company related to the institution

  • Transitions- for example fading to blsack/white or zooming

  • Names of the cast

  • Production designer(s)

  • Costume designer(s)

  • Story by

  • Editor(s)

  • Produced by

  • Title of the film

  • Directed by

These titles are used in most of the films that are out their today but they ranged from film to film. We research what titles are used in the film out their today and we look at films from our genre but we look at genres that are similar to ours and films that in a total different genre, the reason why as a group we research these was because we wanted to find out where would be the best place to place the different titles and also to see how they present them to the audience because when you look at some film genres they make the title and subheading really tiny but not to tiny that you cant see them the reason why they do this is because they want the audience to now that they are there but not to much that it draws there attention away from the film. We also decided not to use the words starring the reason was because many film these days don't use these words and also it doesn't look professional to use them. In our opening the titles that we decide to use was Directed By,Editors, Name of the cast, Music by and so on, we didn't use all the titles that are in the list above but we used most of them

Editing

When we first started editing our film we was doing it in final cut express and as time continued on we was finding it harder and harder to do it so as a group we decide to change it over to movie. Another reason was because we was over hearing how hard it was to add affects and titles as a group we talk about if it would be better for us to change over and everyone agree the main reason why we all agreed was because of timing, timing was a big deal to us because we didn't want to be doing the film at the last minute. Another thing that we was worried about was the fact was we going to be able to produce the type of opening that we wanted on final cut express, and with the effects on imovie being easier to work with, and them effects being the effects that we wanted. When we was going to convert it over we was worried about many things like ' what if it doesn't convert over' ' What if we loose the changes we have made when we are converting it over' we had many worries about converting it over so to make sure that we didn't loose any of the progress that we had made we saved it on two of the groups memory sticks just in case but in the end we done it and now we have ended up with a really good opening.

By using imovie was able to get the editing done alot quicker and also it was much easier for us to edit. We all tried editing the opening and by doing this in my point of view made the opeing much better than if only one person had done it , the reason why i think this is because we all had a range of ideas of what we thought it should be like and when we put them all together it seemed to work out.

In imovie we had a wider range of different affects that we could add into our opening for instance at the beginning of the film we have a girl having flashbacks of when she was running through the woods away from the person why was chasing her,for us to make this look more affective we added a flashback effect and when we played it back it really did look like a flashback but we made a few changes by changing the contrast  to a much brighter setting and also we changed the colours around and made it much duler. When we was going through all the footage that we had shot we had to decide what we wanted to keep and what we wanted to get rid of, over the weeks when we was editing we keeped changeing the footage that we was going to use we keeped having different ideas of what we need to use and what would look godd next to each other.

If we didnt changed our movie over to imovie i dont think our opening world of came out the way that we wanting to but in the end i think overall we have produced a really good opening and that we should all be proud of.

Voice over

To go along with our music box we wanted to do a voice over to add another element to the opening, today we was able to record a voice over with our head of year Mr Miles and Laura, the reason why we choose our head of year was one because we wanted a really manly voice to be interviewing the best friend but also because we really didn't know what they ask in police interviews we asked him because before he was our head of year he was a police officer so he knew what to ask Laura. This was because it made the interview sound more believable to the audience. What was also good about this voice over was because you couldn't see the man voices and it was very deep it added a sense of suspicion to the audience if we would of had a women police officer doing the voice over it it would not of seemed as tensed. In the end we decide that we wasnt going to us the voice over the reason behide this was becuase it we had put it in it would of added more noise to the opening and the opening already had alot going on and also when you look at thrillers that are on the market already the begin is always slienced to build up the suspence. If we had put the voice over in the opening would not of had a inpact on our target audience.

Here is a clip of our voice over.

Music

For the last couple of weeks we have been deciding on what type of music we should use and how should it sound. At the beginning we thought about using the introduction of little mix DNA we like how the music box gave a sense of something bad is going to happen and by using a music box sound it builds up the audiences sense of fear and this is what we wanted as a group for the audience to experience. The reason why we wanted this type of music was because when you look at genre and listen to the type of music that is used they use music that is going to give the audience a sense of fear and get them think about what is going to happen next, we wanted our audience to feel like that and get them trying to figure out what is happen in the opening. After we got told that we wasn't aloud to use this song the reason be hide this was because it would be classed as copyright and we don't want that to happen. We started to the Internet and we found just a music box sound that we decide that we was going to use for the opening just to be played in the background, after a couple of weeks playing around with garage band we came up with a great Melody that suited are genre well. When we was talking about if we wanted to add some other sort of music we decide that it would be better if had a voice over playing in the background the reason why we decide this would be a better option was because we wanted to start to build the audiences tension and get them trying to figure

Costume ideas

Here i have researched different costumes that the different characters could wear in are film opening.

For the Stalker we thought that they could wear all black to give the audience a sense of fear towards the character and also with the make-up that we have done it will also help with make the character seem more scarier to the audience.Black was chosen because its a very morbid colour that gives the audience a sense of mystery as it symbolises suspicion also it screams danger because when you look at our film genre the bad person nearly always were black the reason be hide this is because they want the audience to feel that sense of danger and fear towards that character and that's what we want our audience to feel,We have looked at a range of different clothes and we decide to make Laura who is playing the stalker wear just a plain black top with a hoodie over the top, the reason why we chose a Hoodie was because we thought that when we were filming we could shoot a over the shoulder shot but just have the back of Laura's head just showing to the camera. The other reason why we choose to put the stalker in black was because it portrays his personalty and also the mood we want that scenes to be dark and the feeling of not being safe.

For the young girl we wanted her clothes to be simply and to reflect her mood and personalty, with her mood fell unsafe we wanted her clothes to reflect her feeling self conscious and vulnerable to the stalker. So with this we decide on just a plain pair of jeans and then a jacket to cover her up and because it was winter also she had on a scarf on. We choose her clothes to be mutual colour becuase we didnt want her to stand out and it also will portry the way she feels towards the Stalker she doesnt want to draw attention to herself and give him a reason to follow her.

Storyboard

Here is are video for are storyboard we have decide that are film opening is going to be about a Young girl that has died and many of her friends think that she has killed herself but throughout the duration of the film you see the real truth about what happen. We also decide to have a creepy stalker in are film but we decide that it would be better if we didn't see the face the reason be hide this was because we wanted to create a sense on unease and fear for the audience to experience.

Laura was the person who done some of the drawings for the storyboard to tell the story. After filming this storyboard we notice since we have been filming for the real thing we have changed some of our ideas so we had to add some extra drawings into it to tell you the parts that we have added in and changed. The main reason why we had to changed some of our ideas was one because of the weather turning and also that we thought that some of the ideas that we were having we couldn't do because we didn't have the resources available to us to use, when we was adding in ideas we had to think about making them longer because some of the original ideas were really short and if we had of keeped them they wouldn't make up the 2 minutes that we need for our opening. One of the scenes that we added in was the girl victum walking throught the woods being watched by the other main character that has been watching her.

Type of Shoots that we are going to try and have in are film opening

Here are some of the type of shots that we are going to try and have in are film opening and also a little about each of the type of shots.

Close up- This is where the character/actor is being filmed fills the frame, this is often used to show the emotion felt by the actor while being filmed. For example if the character had just done something of significance and was showing the right emotion this shot can be used to emphasise the emotion that the individual is feeling in that moment. we are going to try and use this when we are looking at the main character

Medium shot - This shot consists of half of the subjects body , with their costume and face still visible for the audience to see. This can be used to show the surroundings of the individual but also the emotions there are feeling at the same time. It is effectively used in horror films especially when creating tension of somebody coming up behind the subject. We are going to try and us this when we are filming the police officer and the best friend talking.

Dutch Tilt - This shot used by which subject or object that is being filmed is tilted to an angle. This shot is often used in mostly horror films to represent confusion and if someone is disorientated . A tilted shot such as a dutch tilt often connotates confusion or panic that the subject is feeling. We are going to try and use this when we are filming the main character running through the woods.

An Extreme Close Up - This is used in horror films to emphasise something, for example if the close up was of the character hands and the actions they were doing with them, then that would be emphasising the actions that the individual was about to do with there hands that has a important of relevance to what is about to happen.Say they were going to do a close up of the individuals hands with them holding something like a gun or a knife then that would be highlighting that something bad was going to happen to the person holding the knife or gun or something bad is going to happen involving the knife. We are to use this shot when we are looking at the main girl character and her reactions are.

The reason why we wanted to have these range of shoots in the opening was because we wanted to show a range of different skills in producing these shots and also we wanted the audience to feel like they was in the movie. By using shots like the extreme close up it lets the audience to see the fear in the main persons eyes and you also wonder what the are looking at.

Make up video

When it got closer to the time that we was going to start filming are opening we started to think about what the main character should look like and also what should we make them look like. So first we had to start to think about who we was going to do the make up on and luckily Laura decide she would do it for us, before we started painting on her face we had to come up with a basic idea after talking about it for a while we came up with she should have a pale face and really dark eyes, so when we are shooting in a dark place all you can see is her face. So then Me, Jessica and Laura had to walk up to c block and have a look at what face paints the school had to offer, we had to also think about what face paints would look better for our genre in the end we choose white and black face paint. We first started to apply a layer of white face paint all over Laura's face by doing this it gave Laura a very pale complexion that made her look more dark and scary she sort of looked like the grudge. While i was doing this i sort of rip Laura's nose stud out she didn't seem too happy about that (Sorry Laura)

After i had apply the white make- up to her face we Jessica started on Laura's eyes, in the corner of the eyes Jess made them darker and got lighter as she done the rest of her eye, after we had done that she started layering the eyes with some black and grey eye shadow the reason why we did this was because we wanted to give the eyes a more softer look to them but still make them look scary on camera. We also painted her lip with the black face paint to make the look complete. Overall we done this make up two times and when we done it the second time it so much better and looked better on camera also laura brought in some black clothes which made the costume look really good and creepy which will make are audience sitting on the edges of their seats.

Filming around school

When we was thinking about the types of shoots we wanted to use, we decide that we was going to go round school and try out a range of different shots. We decide to flim in a range of spots the spots we choose were the orchard, under S block stairs, the LRC. The reason why we choose to to shoot in these areas was because we wanted somewhere dark and spooky and also the size of the area and the range of lighting we had.

The first place that we choose to film in was the orchard. The reason why we choose to shoot here was because of the range of lighting - we felt it was important to vary the lighting depending on the mood and character we were focusing on at the time. In the end we filmed part in the morning and then some later on in the afternoon. By doing this we got some really effective shots - some parts of the orchard was really dark which added a dark and gloomy effect that made our character appear more threatning. The reason why we wanted some places to be really dark was because we wanted it to portray our stalker as a character who lives in the dark and doesn't want to be seen ever. It wasnt just the lighting that had a great effect it was also the scenery that was around us, with the weather not being so good the day before we started to film the ground was all muddy but that didnt matter to us because this was great for the footstep effect that we wanted to try out to see if it added something different to the shots, what also was really great was that some of the trees hung low over each other which also added a dark effect. We made laura who was playing the stalker stand round the tree and in the shadows of the trees by doing this is made her seem more dark and creepy. Whilst we was walking around the orchard we found a wind chime that was hung from one of the trees we thought that it gave the whole area a creepy feel like someone was watching us we started to think about it filmed at night how that would add a creep and spooky sound to the film and how that would made the audience sitting on the edge of their seats.

The second location that we decide to film in was under S block stairs the reaosn behide this was because of the lighting and also there was some table there and we had laura hide behide under them the reason why we made her to do this was becuase we wanted laura character come across as this character that lingers in the shadows not wanting to be seen. The main thing that was really great about having these tables in the way was the different angles that we could shoot from, when laura was under the table we decide to get two cameras and her crawl along the floor this gave us a great range of shoots. When thinking about what other shots we could use to give us a wider range of shoots we flimed laura from above and them different angles around her.

Fonts

After choosing are final name i decide to look at a range of different fonts that might suit are genre and make the name look more interesting that it already is,Above i have chosen five different styles of fonts that i think that would suit are film genre well. When i was searching for different style of fonts i tryed to go for a range of different looking ones the reason why i did this was because i wanted the my target audience who was going to be giving me feedback not to look at the fonts and thinking that they all look the same. When i asked people what they thought about the first font that thought it looked more like a font that should be used for horror films and not a psychological thrillers, i didn't want to use a font that didn't suit my genre so in the end i decide not to use it. When people were look and the final three the one that most stood out to them was the last one the reason i think this is because it looks different from the other fonts and its more eye catching for the audience to look at another reason could be because it looks mysterious like someone has just wrote it on a surface. The one that i think that suits our genre better is number four, the name of this font is called Crime Times Six the reason why i think it is the best font that fits is because of the style of font and how it looks like someone has scratched it onto the wall. When i asked around what people thought of this font they all said that it is a very eye catching font and also it makes you wonder what the film is going to be about because of the way the font looks it makes people start to think about the film in more detail, overall i think that this font had a really good impact on our target audience and also it it looks like a it belongs in our genre.

Title ideas

Title idea

Today we all decide that we should come up with a name for our film. We was looking for something that would make the audience interested in the film and also we wanted something that was going to help make the film more thrilling and make the audience on the edge of their seat, we didn't want a title that doesn't fit in with are genre and also if the film title didn't fit with the genre the audience wouldn't want to watch it.

A bad example of a film name would be the ' The revenge of the white rabbit' this is not a good film title for the type of genre that we are doing. The reason why we are researching into the name is because we want the title to have relevance to the genre we are doing.

When we were thinking about the title for our film we had to think about the title because it is the first thing that the audience will see and we want them to be draw into the movie right at the beginning.

As a group we decide on four different names for the title, the four names that we came up with was:

1.Unhinged

2.Forget me not

3.Forgotten

4. I do believe

When we was going over each of the different names we thought that 'I do Believe' sounded more like a children's Disney movie rather a title for a psychological thriller. When i asked people what they thought of this title they thought it was childish and would put them off watching the movie, so in the end we thought it would be better if we eliminated that one from the list. We also decide to remove Forget me not of the list the reason be-hide why we done this was because we thought it sounded more than a chick-flick rather than a thriller, and when we was asking around what people thought of this title the feedback that they gave us was it sounded more like a rom-com or a child's cartoon movie.

The final two titles left was Unhinged and Forgotten these two title where the ones that fitted are film genre the best. Both of these names are really easy to remember its quick and catchy the reason why we wanted a short and catchy title because it is easier for the audience to remember, if we was to chose a longer title the audience woundlt have remember as well as the other short names and it makes the film sound interesting. Having the one word title made it fit are genre more because many psychological thrillers have short sharp titles the reason be hide this is because they want their audience to be intrigue

When asking around what title was better for our film we needed to ask the people that are in are target audience to use the feedback the reason why was because they are the people that we are aiming are film at, the questions we ask them was what they thoughts were about the names and also which one was better we ask a range of people ageing from 16-18 we asked more girls than boys the reason why we ask more girls was because they were much more straight with there answer, sadly we didn't get a equal amount of boys and girls if we had gotton more boys i think are outcome would of been more different i think we would had a range of different thoughts on what title we should have used some of the opinions would have been mature and immature.

In the end Unhinged got the most votes the reason why we think that it got the most votes was because Unhinged is more eye catching for the audience to look at and also it make you wonder what the film is actually about. By using this title it makes the audience become more intrigue. With the word Unhinged it means lie a door hanging on the wall or unstable by using this title it also relates with are main character Taylor with her being unstable about some following her and everyone thinking she has gone mad, the idea of the word Unhinged being used at the title we want people to try and relate it to the main character and make the links. The feedback that we got from are questionnaire was unhinged was different from the other names and that it made them more interested to find out what the film was going to be about.

Overall Unhinged was my favourite title because i like the way it made me think about what the film was going to be about and also it got me thinking about what it reference it had to the plot of the story.

Film Institutions

Here are to of the film institutions that i have looked at with my group. The first one we looked at was paramount pictures the reason that we look at these was because we thought these would be institution that specialise in the genre that we have chosen to do. The second one that we looked at was Universal pictures the reason that we looked at these was because we also thought they also was a institution that made thriller films.

Paramount Pictures

The paramount picture corporation is a corporation that specilies in film and television production and they have been doing this since 1912. Paramount pictures is the fourth oldest studios coming just be hide the likes of Universal studios and Gaumount pictures but paramount are still running in today's film industry, some people may say that paramount pictures is one of the best existing studios that is out there. Paramount are also the last large film studio that is still located in Hollywood, where ever you look paramount is still posted as on of the largest movie studios that are out there these days. Paramount Pictures have alot of great film behide their belt from the likes of THOR, Rango, Transformers, Footlose, Justin Bieber Never say Never and the most famous film titanic. But they have also help to produce films such as forrest gump and charrlottes web.

Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures is a film studio which is located in America, it is part of six of the largest movie studios in the world along with paramount pictures. Most people commonly know universal for the fact that it is one of the longest running motion pictures studios that is not located anywhere near Hollywood. Universal was founded around the same time that Paramount was in the 1912. Universal Pictures have created some great films that a range of films that everyone can enjoy from the likes of Fast and Furious, Bridesmaids, the mummy and everyones favourite E.T and they have created many more.

Our group decision

In the end as a group we decided to chose Paramount pictures as a Film institution to use a the beginning of are film opening. The reason that we have chosen Paramount was becuase we thought that these were better becuase they did more films that go with the genre that we have choson and also we was think of how the audience would act when they heard the beginning of the film so we thought that more people would know the Paramount pictures theme tune straight away and it would take them more time to figure out the Universal pictures theme tune.

Researching Openings

Today as a group we decide that we was going to look at a range of film openings and research what goes into them. We decided that we had to focus our attention mainly on our genre but we decide to also look at films from different genres and compare the openings, we look at a range of different openings and decide on what opening that we liked better and why we like them. The reason why we did this was because then we can base our own ideas on what we have seen and also how will our own ideas compare to the movies that are on the market today.

When we was deciding on what type of genre that we wanted to base our opening off on of our members of the group decide that if we done a horror or thriller would be the best option for us to choice one because the target audience would be easier to talk to because we are surrounded by people of that age and also it would give use a chance to show off our skills and also to widen our skills. Another factor of why we choose to do a thriller is because the opening of these are really tense and they  build up this atmosphere that makes the audience sit on the edge of their seats and with psychology thrillers they get you to think about whats happen and that's what we wanted for our audience to do. Another member of our group wanted to do something much more easier like a rom-com the reason why she wanted to do this was because of the atmosphere that it creates with the music, with the music being happy and lively something that you just want to sing along with. Also the openings are much more happy and when you are watching them it makes you happy and it makes you want to watch the rest.

The openings that we decided to look at where:

  • Monsters inc. ( Animation)

  • Paranormal activity 2 ( Horror )

  • Sinister ( psychological Thriller )

  • Hitch ( Romantic comedy )

We watch the first two minutes of each film and then talked about the opening comparing it to each other and saying what was different in each film and also what we liked about the opening, we also look at what film institutions each of the films were by the reason why we did this was because we wanted to find a film institution that focused on our type of genre. The parts we were focusing on was what type of music has been used, what type of text and how does that appear to the audience and what shots were they using like shot reverse shot, over the shoulder and close ups.

When we was looking at the types of fonts they were using we noticed that they always made it easy for the audience to read and they made it stand out from the background that it has been placed on, also they font type they used it is always simply and is not bold or scroll writing. After looking at the fonts we started to research what type of fonts are used in Psychological Thrillers and how they are presented to the audience that is watching the movie, when looking at more films from this genre we started to noticed they use alot of Gothic type of writing and the font always stands out from the background and it not to big that it draws your attention away from the movie.

Most of the movies started with either a close up shoot of someones face or s conversation between two people and sometimes there is a establishing shot right at the beginning, when they start the movie off with two people talking they don't usually have the actors names coming up the reason why they do this is because if they start the movie with a conversation and whatever they are saying must be important and they want you to remember what they are saying because it might be revalent further along in the film. They mostly use establishing shots mainly when they are putting the titles up , this is because they want a simply background and also they don't to put the audience off from paying attention to what is happening. All of the openings that we looked at where all different from one another and from this we as a group had a lot of talking about what we should do for our opening some people thought we should start of with two people talking and others thought we should focus on one of the main characters. One of the movies we look at which was Monster INC started of different from the other three theirs started with clip art and animation the reason why this is because their target audience is children and families they want to catch the audiences attention from the very start and keep them hooked the whole way through.

After looking at the different film openings we decide that what bits we was going to use for our own opening these were:

  • The institution we was going to use we decided on either paramount pictures and universal studios we couldn't decide on which one so we went into further research to see which ones did the film genre that we had chose.

  • What font we was going to use for the headings and titles

  • The types of shots we were going to use

  • And the type ofmusic we should use for the opening

From watching these opening we have found out alot more about what they put in a opening and it has help us with some descions we couldn't make on our own.

By watching these film openings we have realised what conventions were needed for the opening. This meant we had to focus on more precise things in order for our opening to not look tacky and for it to suit our target audience.

Film opening ideas

As a group we came up with two different ideas for are film opening one was a psychological horror and the other idea we had was a psychological thriller. We like the idea of psychological because of the way when you are watching the movie you have to think about the story line and how you have to try and figure out what is happening.

The first idea that we had was a teenage girl getting kidnapped and being throw in the boot of the kidnappers car. She would be tied and bound with ropes and she will have something around her mouth so she cant talk or shout, but if we put a camera in with her in the back we can make her breath heavy to add a sense of suspense. The car that we would want to use would be either a land rover or a range rover the reason that this type of car would be good is because it will enable are group to get some good shots with different angles and also we can get some great shots within the car and also outside the car. We will have two kidnappers outside the boot having a conversation about what they have done, this is also known as non-digetic vocals. The conversation will involve some bad language so anyone that is younger than about 15 might be offend by it.

Our second idea was a psychological thriller, we was going to have at the beginning of the film have some voice overs of a girl and a police man having a conversation about the young girls best friends who has died and the police have think that she has committed suicide but the girl knowns the best friend hasn't committed suicide and she is convinced that the best friends killer is out there walking free.At the start of the film we will have the voice overs talking and then we will have clips of the best friend at home doing getting ready and then it will cut to clips of her in the woods and then you see her killer watching her.

From these two ideas we have chosen to do the second idea the reason why we choose this was because we thought it was more eye catching and interesting for the audience to get into and also we had many other little ideas to go with this ideas.

Target Audience for our opening

As a group we have decide that we are going to choose teenagers as are chosen target audience the reason that we have done that was because:

  • Firstly they would understand are opening more and also they would give us feedback to help us improve are opening to make it suit the target audience more and also the genre that we have chosen.

Teenagers are a large target audience for us to focus on and they are also quite reliable because they can go to the cinema with their friends and also their family without the need of parental consent.

  • The genre that us as a group has chosen is a psychological thriller so this film genre is not appropriate for any younger child to watch and also adults that are over the age of about 20 would not be as intertested in it because of the ideas behide the film and they might prefer other genres instead of a psychological thriller.

  • A psychological thriller is a film that gets your brsin thinking about the storyline more and you need to understand what is happening other wise you will not know what is happening and you would lose interest into the movie.

  • And by choosing teenagers we can use a range of ideas on our film opeing without the need to make the films plot low key and not interesting for the audience

Target Audience Part 2

Tangled

The age group for tangled is a universal age this is because a range of different audience can watch the movie and also enjoy what they are watching, for example children and their parents can watch the movie together because the movie is family orientated. This movie is great for the universal target group because of the great plot they have and also the plot is easy to understand for the children but It i also interesting for the adults to watch with their children. The movie is not confusing and there are many characters in this movie that are love able for example Rapunzel and Flynn Rider (in the picture above). However because Universal age is such a large target market you have to be very careful when you are producing a movie like this because you have to think alot about the language that is used in this and also the plot of the story, is people going to understand what you are trying to get at and also are they going to be interested in it. With this film i think that it has a great plot and a great opening because as soon as you watch the beginning you want to watch the rest of the film, also there are some really funny parts in the movie that keep you entertained. This movie is one of them movies that you can watch over and over again and not get bored with it.

Some over movies that come under this target audience would be the likes of Ice Age,Monster INC, Brave, Epic and many more

Camp Rock

The target group for Camp Rock and Camp rock 2 is 6 to 14 year old and also this film is a unisex film so boys and girls can enjoy watching a film together and not arguing. In this film there are very lovable characters in this movie for example The Jonas Brothers and also Demi Lovato that younger children can fall in love with and look at them as their role model and because this movie is based around singing and dancing they can sing and dance along to the music. The plot of this film is really easy for the audience to understand and catch onto, and it also has little elements of romance between two of the main characters. The audience can relate to this film because it is all about believing in yourself and your dreams either if they are to do with singing or dancing. In a whole i think this movie is great for the target audience that it is made for because of the way it is telling children not to give up on there dreams of becoming a singer or a dancer, just let your dreams be free, i also like the way that it is very easy to get into and how you can dance and sing along to all the songs because of how catching they are. And if the children loved the first part of this movie i am sure that they would watch the second one for more singing and dancing fun, another movie that is just like this movie is the High School Musical film's which have a same sort of plot but tells the story through everyday school life and how hard it is to follow your dreams with in that school.

Mean Girls

The aged group for Mean Girls would be about 14 to 19, this movie is quite humorous and teenagers can relate to this film and also the plot of the film. This movie would attract more teenage girls more than teenage boys however there are certain parts that they might like, This movie can be associated with teenage girls because as it is set in a high school and the genre of the movie allows the audience to understand the plot and also there is a voice over to help the audience to understand what is happening, it is a funny & action packed movie but it still tells the basis of everyday school life such as bullying, rumours spreading and also fights. The plot of this film is very interesting and funny at the same time it keeps the audience entertained through-out the whole movie and most of the scenes are really funny which makes the audience want to laugh. Some people that are under the age of 14 might not understand the humour that is in this film but also they might not understand what the plot of the film is about. Even though the film is a 12A people that are are near that age range might not like this film because of the plot and what the movie is about, also people that are over the age of 19 might not be as interested in this film because it is out of there age range. Mean girls is a chick-flick movie that is great for a girls night in.

Scream

Scream is in the Horror genre and it would be targeted mostly at 15 to 23 year olds and older, anyone that is under that aged would not be advised to watch the movie becuase of the plot of the movie but also the violent elements that it has and also the type of language that is used. And also because of the type of genre that it is, it can also create nightmares for any younge child that happens to watch this film but also they would not understand the plot of this movie as well as a person that is 15 and older, this film is a fear gripping movie and it has the target audience of the edge of their seats for most of the scenes it is also very intense with the killings in this movie but whats great about this movie is that it is easy to understand for the audience that is 15 years and up. When watching a horror movie you dont want to become bored and not interested in the plot but in my view i find this movie has a very simple plot but very interesting at the same time becuase the whole time you are watching it you are trying to find out who SCREAM is.

Film Genre- Comedy

The third film genre that i choose to research was comedy.

Comedies often will have alight-hearted plots and has elements of the different styles of humour that will engage the audience and make them laugh. The are many different forms of comedy such as slapstick, spoofs ,parodies and romantic comedies. The clothes that a actor might wear in a comedy film would normally be either normal everyday clothes or they would wear clothes that they know that might make the audience laugh and keep them interested. The type of people that normally might watch comedy films will depend on the type of theme that the comedy is and also the age of the audience that will be watching the movie, comedy films are not restricted like most horror films are because most children are able to watch most of the comedy films that are out there at the moment but films like step brothers younger children are recommend to watch because of the types of humour that is used might offend a children but also put them off other comedy films. These type of films have a range of different scene to make the audience feel a range of different emotions for example there might be a scene that might make the audience wet themselves with laughter and also they might have very sad scenes.

Establishing shots

A establishing shot is there to set up or establishes the context of the scene to the audience by showing them the relationship between the important characters that are in that scene and also the important objects. the generally would use a long shot or even a extreme long shot at the very beginning of a scene showing the audience where the scene is being held and also it can also sometimes show when the rest of the scene is going to take place. Establishing shots were mostly used in the classical era of the filmmaking and now days they are used alot less. Most of today's filmmakers tend to now skip the shots to move the scene along quicker to get the audience more into the film.

Close ups

These types of shots are used for us as the audience to one understand who is the main character is and also to see the expression in the person face and also the other character that they are talking too. Close up shots are also used to frame a object that the character is holding or if the object is important for us as the audience to know about. There are many types of Close up for example medium close up, lean out and lean.

Music

The type of music that is normally used in a comedy movie is a cheerful and happy type of music that the audience will know or they have heard of this, the reason they do this is because it keeps the audience interested in the film and it also interests them to sing along to the song but mostly not aloud but most of the time it will be in their head

Film Genres- Action

Action Films

This Film genre is where there is one or more heroes is made to do a series of challenges that will require some frenetic chases and physical feats. Action movies tend to feature a character that is strong and resourceful struggling against some incredible odds. These may involve some life-threatening situations that can harm the main character, a villain that might be out to take over the world or out to kill the main character, and being pursued, with victory being achieved at the end of the movie after all the difficult physical efforts and violence. the sort of things that happen mostly in action films are explosions, gun play, car chases and explosions.

Some sub-genres of Action are:Action Comedy,Action horror, Die-Hard scenario, Disaster Films, Sci-Fi Action and Superhero movies

They use a range of different camera shots in actions movies the reason they do this is because they want to show the movement throughout the film and also they want you to feel like you are in the movie when they are having the car chases. The type of camera shots that they use are:

Aerial shot:This is a camera shot filmed usually from an air plane, helicopter, blimp, balloon, kite or high building.they use aerial shots to view large landscapes to set the located in which the characters are in.if the aerial shot is of a character it can make then seem insignificant to their surroundings.

Extreme close-ups

These are also used in action films in sort of the same way that they are in horror films they are to emphasise the character or what they are doing with there hands or what they are holding such as a gun or a knife.Sometimes it could e a close up of there face and the expression they are giving. But most of the time they might have a close up of the characters hands and the actions that the because then they wanted to highlight that something bad was going to happen and also to emphasis the actions that the individual was about to do with there hands that has a important of relevance to what is about to happen and what relevance it has to the film. The most likely characters to get a close up are major characters, they are often given a close-up when they are introduced as a way of indicating their importance to you as a audience and the film, also leading

 Flashbacks

This is a narrative device in which the action is interrupted by scenes representing a character's memory of events before the time of the action. Flashbacks are often used to show the audience the events that have already happened before the movies primart sequence of events have happen and also so it fills in the back story. A character flashback is often used to show the key events in the characters early development throughout the film. this technique id used to create suspense in the film or ti shoe develop through a character. When they are using flashbacks during the movies the edges of the pictures may be deliberately blurred, photograph blurred, photography may be jarring or choppy.

Cutaway

This is a sudden shift to another scene of action or different viewing angle or a shot is inserted between scenes to effect a transition. An example of a cutaway shot would be if the main shot was of a women walking down a dark alleyway, possible cutaways may include a shot of a cat sitting on a wall or on a nearby dumpster or even a shot of a old person or a strange man watching the women from a overhead window.

Flim Genres- Horror

I have chosen three different film genres to research they are Horror, Action and Comedy. I am also going to be identify the conventions of these particular genre.

Horror is a film genre seeks to get a negative reaction from its viewers by playing on the audiences main fears. horror films often will feature scenes that will startle the viewer and also some of the frequent themes that are through out most of the horror films today are the macabre and the supernatural, but they may overlap with the fantasy and thriller genres.

Most horror films deal with the viewers hidden nightmares and their deepest fears, and terror of the unknown. the plots within the horror genre often will involve the intrusion of an evil force, an event, or personage, commonly of the supernatural origin, into the everyday world.Prevalent elements will include ghosts, vampires, werewolves, curses, demons, torture and serial killers.

Some Sub-genres of horror are:Action Horror,Body Horror,Comedy Horror,Natural Horror, Psychological Horror ,Zombie Horror

In Horror Films they us a range of different camera shots such as extreme close up close up and two person shot, the reason why they use these shots because they want you as a audience to feel a range of feelings with the use of the different camera shoots:

An Extreme Close Up - This is used in horror films to emphasise something, for example if the close up was of the character hands and the actions they were doing with them, then that would be emphasising the actions that the individual was about to do with there hands that has a important of relevance to what is about to happen.Say they were going to do a close up of the individuals hands with them holding something like a gun or a knife then that would be highlighting that something bad was going to happen to the person holding the knife or gun or something bad is going to happen involving the knife.

Close up - This is where the character/actor is being filmed fills the frame, this is often used to show the emotion felt by the actor while being filmed. For example if the character had just done something of significance and was showing the right emotion this shot can be used to emphasise the emotion that the idividual is feeling in that moment.

Dutch Tilt - This shot used by which subject or object that is being filmed is tilted to an angle. This shot is often used in mostly horror films to represent confusion and if someone is disorientated . A tilted shot such as a dutch tilt often connotates confusion or panic that the subject is feeling.

Extreme long shot - This is a shot by which the hole setting fills the whole frame. This shot is often used so that the audience can work out what the setting is such as the city that the flim might be set in,also the mise en scene ect. This shot is also used in mainly horror films it create atmosphere and tension for the audience and it also will inform the audience of the creepy setting in which the scene is going to take place in.

Medium shot - This shot consists of half of the subjects body , with their costume and face still visible for the audience to see. This can be used to show the surroundings of the individual but also the emotions there are feeling at the same time. It is effectively used in horror films especially when creating tension of somebody coming up behind the subject.
