Does media imfluence our lives or does it reflect it ?
I think that the media
influences society. The media provides us with entertainment, information and
comfort. I have come across a lot of things of how the media influences us it
is not only the way we look but it is also the food that we eat, the way we
spend our time, the way we speak, the things we buy, our concept on what
happiness, love and sadness be, also what we should be afraid of and the
decision that we make in life. For example many of us follow celebrities and
what they do in their day to day lives and this is only possible because the
media is telling us what they are doing such as Facebook, billboards, magazines
and many more, and because we see what they are doing all the time it starts to
influence onto are day to day lives such as they might start wearing one type
of shoe brand and because we like them it makes us want to go out and buy
whatever they have. Also when people that didn’t follow the crowd and did what
they wanted to and dresses a certain way they, had they own names known as
‘indie’ and now because of the media everyone knows about this style and now it
is the latest fashion tread ,that has spread worldwide through the media. I also
think that the media influences our decisions on things like politics and the government
I think this because if the media write or say something bad about the government
or someone that works for them it changes our opion on them and things
surrounding them. The media also can have a huge impact on teenagers because with
the media always taking about the latest ways to lose weight Teenagers
often feel self-conscious about appearance, their size, or their clothes. The media can
also have a positive effect on people and not always the negative effect in the
end it is all about what choices we make as a person and what you choose to
subscribe to and adopt as you own.
The positive effect on people from the media is during the London 2012 Olympics because of the media always taking about it on the radio, in the newspapers and on the TV, it brought the UK public together in many years talking about the events the night before. and it brought a range of cultures together talking about the different teams and how they where doing.
They influence a range of people such as a the David Beckham incident when David kicked another football player in the leg and because of that he got a red card, they blamed him for England loses the game and because of that the media the UK public all started hating him because of what the media was saying about him and they put his face on a dart board and people bought it.
I think the media also effects are behaviour towards things as well because when people in the media write something bad about someone and saying how they dislike that person, us as the audience read that and we start to think like that and then we get the same feelings towards that certain person, this also relates back to the David Beckham incident they way everyone started hating on him. Another way that the media affects are behaviour is when the riots where happen up in London in 2011, people where seeing what was happen on the TV some people decide to start rioting too.
Some interesting points here, Ashleigh. You have a catalogue of the ways the media influences us but could have looked at whether this has a positive or negative effect on our behaviour.
